To Buy or Not to Buy a Trampoline!

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a very protective mom.  And like most moms, I use extra caution on everything that involves my kids.  So when I wanted to get a trampoline, but my husband objected …. I thought maybe I needed to rethink this.  If you know my husband, he doesn’t worry about anything.  That is why this scenario is so unlike us.

I decided it was time to look into some safety features of a trampoline.  I actually visited the website, trampolinesafety.com (it sounded like the logical place to start).

As with anything for our kids, adult supervision is ALWAYS needed with something like this.  We all know injuries can happen just about anywhere, so it’s important to make sure you have a safety plan.

According to trampolinesafety.com, there are four major points where injuries could take place:

• Before you jump
• Landing on springs or frame
• Bouncing off the trampoline
• Landing incorrectly on the mat

There are also important rules to follow.  For example; one person on the trampoline at a time, no somersaults, and no jumping over the barrier.  Now we know these rules are not always followed but are strongly encouraged.

I think when it comes to making the decision to have a trampoline, all parents need to be on board.  This is not something to be taken lightly and parental supervision is key to keeping your kids safe.

You can read a lot more online at www.trampolinesafety.com including more on safety, trampoline ratings and benefits.

What do you think?  Do you have a trampoline?
