Running for Boston!

runforbostonOver the last week, I have heard of so many stories from my Facebook friends, news reports and within the running community that people just want to do something to honor the city of Boston and those who died. Most people are getting out to run for Boston. Even if its just organizing a group of friends to run around the block or meet for a run on the beach. This tragic event has inspired so many people to run. And the numbers for next year’s marathon are already on record pace to be the biggest race ever. And this horrible event has not just inspired runners across the country but around the world. Runners at the London marathon last weekend wore black ribbons to remember the victims.

So if you want to help the best thing you can do is Run for Boston! Meaning don’t let this tragic event keep you from enjoying a sport you love.  And if you are unable to give money to help, start a running group.  Get your friends together and Run for Boston!

Here are ways to help the city of Boston.

One Fund Boston – Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino started One Fund Boston to raise money for those families most affected by the marathon bombing.  To date over $20 million dollars has been raised through public and corporate donations.

The New England Patriots and The Kraft Family announced it would match the first $100,000 in donations.

The Salvation Army– Volunteers are in Boston with two canteens (mobile kitchens) to provide spiritual and emotional support. Find out how you can help here!
