Managing Our Kids Busy Schedules!

familytimeWhether it’s summer or the school year, our kids have extremely busy schedules.  And sometimes it’s really hard to keep up.  I know this summer has been a challenge for my family.  Do you have a calender on the fridge with your daily schedules including games, practices and birthday parties?  It’s probably a good system of keeping track but does it really work?  I went searching for a plan to keep up with my kids plans or their schedules.

What I found is that it’s important to not only plan their sports schedules and play dates but to also plan family life and downtime! While we continue to push ourselves more and more everyday, it’s also important to schedule time for ourselves. It’s good advice for all of us!

Here’s some advice I found on ivillage.com:

1. Schedule lessons for every second week rather than weekly. Give your child the free day to practice or as playtime.

2. Set up a carpooling arrangement so siblings aren’t spending their precious time at another child’s activity.

3. Be mindful that activities might push back your child’s bedtime.  So try to keep bedtime as normal as possible.

4. Establish a Sunday meal as mandatory family time.

5. Make sure the weekends are a time to rest, daydream and recharge for the week ahead.

If you can find a way to organize all the schedules you have in your life, your home will seem less chaotic.  And it might even teach your kids about good planning and organizing at a young age!
