Athletes Need Recruiting Video!
If you’re new to the sports recruiting process, this may come as a surprise to you. BUT, recruiting videos are an essential component to any good athlete’s portfolio.
That’s because college coaches can’t physically get to every player because they don’t have the time or the budget. So having a video online is imperative in order to be seen by coaches! I would take it even a step further and have your athlete have their own blog with stats, video, photos and more.
Getting a professional video can be very pricey and probably not needed in my opinion unless you have the extra money to spend. Video cameras on the phone can work just fine as long as your editing down video and getting good highlights. A 30 minute video of your kid working out at practice isn’t going to cut it! BORING!
Here are some good tips that I took from Athletic Scholarships:
Use Varsity Footage Only- Highlight videos should only be between four and six minutes long, so after two or three games, you should have enough footage for your first video. As the season progresses, you can get more footage and create another video.
Record & Edit it Yourself- Get footage from different angles, shoot video wide and close-up to mix it up. When it comes to editing, pick the plays yourself. There are several online editing programs that are pretty easy to use. If you’re not comfortable or don’t have the time, hire an editor. BUT don’t let an editor choose the highlights. Look at other online recruiting videos as examples to see what you like.
Post Your Video Online- There are tons of video-sharing websites where you can upload your video for free. It is much easier for coaches to click on a link that you send them. Examples: are YouTube or Vimeo .
Our NUMBER #1 priority is to provide you with outstanding money-saving deals and opportunities and, in some way, to add value to your life and to the lives of those whom you love and care about. To accomplish this goal, we spend time researching and validating deals and offerings. Some deals involve products or services sold by merchants that have affiliate programs. If I find a product or service, which I believe is a “great deal,” I have no issue referring you to the product or service with an affiliate link. We may also allow third-party merchants to place text links, graphic buttons and/or banner ads on Sports Mom. I might get paid a commission if you use the link and/or buy the product. Whether you use the link or buy the product is entirely up to you.
