I’m Chris Huston and my life can be described as happy chaos – very much like this picture. I’m a married mother of two (ages 5 & 3) and while we may just be starting out in the world of sports, my sports background started a long time ago.
I have always loved sports. I was actually born in the Bronx, NY – just blocks away from Yankee Stadium. I guess you could say I had Yankees pinstripes in my blood. Actually I did! My grandfather, Tom Carroll was a pitcher for the Jersey Skeeters, a minor league baseball team in the Yankees organization. He even played with baseball royalty, Babe Ruth. Like my mom, I fell in love with baseball and have been a sports fan ever since.
My love of sports led me to a career in sports broadcasting. As a sports reporter, I covered high school, college and professional sports in cities like Philadelphia, Austin and Dallas. After more than 20 years as a Sports Anchor, Sports Reporter and “Good Morning Texas” producer, I’m now pursing my dream of being a writer and Sports mom.
I moved to Texas to follow my career in television. Here I met and married the man of my dreams and together we have two children. My kids are already active in swimming, soccer and gymnastics. If you ask my son, he says he wants to be a baseball player when he grows up. Right now he will have to settle for soccer. Cameron, my 3 year old has been playing First Kicks soccer for a few months now. And despite Mommy putting his socks and shin guards on backwards for the first half of the season, I would say he is doing pretty well. At this age, they don’t play with a goalie and most of the kids are goofing off in the corner of the field, but he has already learned that he has to try his best at all times and never give up.
Sienna, my daughter has different interests. She loves gymnastics! Only time will tell if she will be the next Gabby Douglas! But each week, I sit patiently watching through dark tinted glass with hopes that she is actually mastering a cart-wheel or able to balance on the balance beam. Both my kids are also big swimmers but I think next on our sports list will be t-ball baseball and outdoor soccer!
As I navigate the hits and misses of the Sports Mom world, I hope to share all of my experiences (good and bad) with you. And in turn, you can teach me a thing or two!
