Workout Pitfalls & How to Avoid Them!

badhabitsAre you on a regular workout schedule but not seeing many results? It could be you are getting caught up in some workout traps. Here’s a list of some bad workout habits we fall into and how to avoid those nasty pitfalls and start seeing some results.

Cutting workouts short:
A complete workout consists of a stretch to loosen your muscles, the actual workout and an after workout stretch and cool down. If you cut your workout short and don’t cool down your muscles, you could risk injury. And if you are injured you can’t workout which will keep you from hitting your target.

Too many social obligations:
We all love when an excuse comes up and we don’t have to workout. But sometimes a good excuse can also be an unwanted temptation. If you cancel a workout because of a party or happy hour with friends, you are not only missing your workout but you are adding calories to your day. If you want to miss a workout, the best thing to do is do something physical like take a walk with friends or go to a healthy dinner party and watch what you eat.

-Rewarding yourself:
When you have a good workout, its easy to want to treat yourself to something special like a chocolate treat or a Starbucks frappuccino. But stop that temptation right now. It might be a good idea to play your post-workout meal before you go. That way you are not tempted to stop for a burger or pizza.

Drinking sports drinks:
Many people reach for a sports drink after a workout instead of water. The problem is that you are taking in all those empty calories associated with sports drink. Still the best drink to grab for after workout is water. This will hydrate you without adding calories.

Wearing the wrong clothes:
Not only is wearing the wrong clothing a bad idea but wearing too much clothing. Make sure you are not wearing a new pair of leggings or extra jewelry that you don’t need. You don’t want to be uncomfortable in your class and not be able to do the complete workout. And make sure if you are wearing layers, you have a plan for your jacket. Nothing is worse that while on a run you have to carry a jacket several miles til the end.

Just  a few things to consider while you are working out this spring. The important thing is you are working out — so keep up the good work!
